Tesla Model Y Juniper Design Leak: What to Expect from the 2025 Refresh!

Updated Tesla Model Y Design: What’s New?

Tesla’s Model Y, a cornerstone in the brand’s entry-level lineup alongside the Model 3, once shined for its outstanding performance, particularly with its affordable rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version. It even achieved leading sales in several electric vehicle markets. However, its popularity has waned since introducing the refreshed Model 3—the most budget-friendly Tesla sedan.

Now, anticipation is building as rumors of a Model Y refresh have surfaced, with promises of enhanced quality and design. Potential buyers are eagerly awaiting further details. Recently released renderings of the updated Model Y have drawn significant attention, refining design features previously leaked via prototype sightings and offering a more detailed glimpse into what the refreshed version may look like.

Accurate Renderings Emerge

In September, Auto Express released a rendering of the new Model Y, offering insights into the redesigned exterior. The front end adopts a sleeker, more modern look, borrowing some design cues from the recently launched Model 3 Highland. Notably, it features slimmer and sharper headlights, which add to the vehicle’s refined proportions. A single-line daytime running light (DRL) frames the headlamps and connects them with a light strip under the hood, giving the car a seamless, futuristic appearance.

While the bumper design remains similar to the current Model Y, fog lights now sit at the edges, and the central air intake retains its familiar look.

Luxury and Sophistication Take Center Stage

At the rear, updated renderings showcase horizontally oriented "ㄷ"-shaped tail lamps—a feature inspired by the Model 3 Highland. A black garnish visually ties together the top and bottom sections of the taillights, creating a wider and sportier look. The classic T-shaped Tesla emblem has been replaced with bold Tesla lettering, aligning with Tesla’s minimalist design philosophy.

A light strip beneath the Tesla lettering adds symmetry to the rear’s lighting setup, matching the front DRL. Red calipers and matte black wheels in the rendering hint at a performance-oriented specification, emphasizing a dynamic and athletic aesthetic.

Interior Upgrades and Launch Timeline

Spy shots of the new Model Y prototype reveal some key changes that resemble the refreshed Model 3 Highland. Horizontal tail lights are a confirmed feature, while the interior is set to see significant updates. Ambient lighting is expected to span across the dashboard and extend to the first-row door trims, creating a cohesive, premium cabin feel.

Other updates include a shift lever integrated into the center display, controls for the turn signal, and wipers moving to the steering wheel switch panel. The powertrain options will remain similar to the current model, with rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations, and the performance version could exceed 500 horsepower.

Despite the growing anticipation, Elon Musk has indicated that the new Model Y won’t launch in the second half of 2024. Instead, its release is anticipated in early 2025.
