Tesla's official North American account has announced that the Model S now comes with lifetime free Supercharging in the United States. According to Tesla’s official website, customers who purchase or lease a new Model S on or after December 13, 2024, will be eligible for this offer.
Recently, Tesla also raised the price of the Model S in the U.S. by $5,000. The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) version and the Plaid version now cost $79,990 and $94,990, respectively, matching the price of the Model X. The prices of other models, such as the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, remain unchanged, and no similar price adjustments have been made in Canada.
Tesla's lifetime free Supercharging program dates back to the early days of the Model S. When Tesla launched the Model S in 2012, unlimited free Supercharging was included as a standard feature. At the time, this initiative helped Tesla establish its foothold in the automotive industry.
However, in early 2017, as Tesla sought to expand its Supercharger network rapidly and ensure financial sustainability, the free charging incentive was gradually phased out. Since then, Tesla has occasionally reintroduced free Supercharging as a limited-time offer to boost sales during critical periods.
Conditions of the Offer
This lifetime free Supercharging offer comes with specific conditions. The benefit is tied to the buyer's or lessee's Tesla account and is non-transferable. It does not apply to used vehicles, commercial orders, or vehicles used for commercial purposes. Free Supercharging remains linked to the original buyer’s or lessee’s Tesla account and cannot be transferred to other people, vehicles, or orders, even if the car is resold.
Tesla also stated that it reserves the right to revoke the lifetime free Supercharging benefit if it detects “excessive charging or unpaid Supercharging fees.” However, Tesla has not clarified what constitutes “excessive charging.”
Additional Benefits and Compatibility
This offer can be combined with other ongoing promotions, such as 0% financing and 3 months of free access to the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised software. While the Model X does not include lifetime free Supercharging, new orders for the Model X are eligible for 3 months of free Supercharging.
