Tesla FSD Beta Officially Launches in the Mexican Market

Tesla FSD Beta Officially Launches in the Mexican Market

Since last year, Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system (supervised version) has been continuously optimized. It now has the capability to drive from the starting parking spot to the destination parking spot entirely on its own (end-to-end), requiring almost no intervention or operation from the driver.

However, for a long time, only Tesla owners in the US and Canada who purchased the FSD package could experience this feature. Now, FSD is finally expanding beyond the US and Canadian markets, officially launching in Mexico.

Recently, the Tesla Mexico Owners Club announced that FSD Beta has been released for the first time in Mexico. Tesla's official AI team responded with "Hello Mexico!" confirming the launch.

Tesla has always been committed to bringing FSD to more markets, with primary targets being Europe and China. Surprisingly, Mexico, a country Tesla hadn't mentioned before, is the first to see FSD launch outside the US and Canada. This suggests that there might be fewer obstacles to deploying FSD in Mexico compared to other regions.

Nevertheless, Europe and China remain key markets for Tesla's FSD rollout, with Tesla aiming to launch FSD in both regions this year. However, no official timeline has been released regarding the exact launch dates.

Why Mexico?

Currently, the Tesla FSD application market is still limited. Including Mexico, Tesla FSD is mainly available in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

The US, being Tesla's primary market, has a large user base that provides abundant testing and optimization data for FSD. The system is already in use in various local scenarios, such as highways and city streets.

Canada's driving environment and habits are similar to those of the US, and Tesla FSD has been successfully deployed there, assisting users with autonomous driving in different road conditions. Mexico, on the other hand, is the first market outside the US and Canada to receive FSD, with well-developed road infrastructure and high consumer acceptance of new technologies, providing a favorable environment for FSD deployment.

In addition, Mexico’s traffic flow and driving habits share some similarities with those in the US and Canada. FSD has already accumulated substantial operational data and experience in these markets, making it relatively easier to adapt to Mexico's traffic environment. For example, in dealing with common driving situations like traffic congestion and lane changes, FSD can optimize and adjust based on existing algorithms and models.

However, Tesla has also cautioned in its user manual: "Due to the unique infrastructure, driving behaviors, and traffic patterns of each country, FSD (supervised version) must adapt over time. Therefore, drivers using FSD (supervised version) in newly qualified countries must exercise extra caution and remain prepared for a safety takeover at all times."

From a market perspective, Mexico has long been open to the electric vehicle industry.

In 2023, Mexico produced over 100,000 electric vehicles, a 37% year-on-year increase. The market sales volume exceeded 14,000 units, a 149.4% increase, accounting for 19% of the total Mexican car sales market. Additionally, to expand the scope of electric vehicle applications, the Mexican Electric Vehicle Association manages over 40,000 electric vehicles and more than 30,000 charging ports across the country, capturing 85% of Mexico’s EV market share.

Tesla has also been optimistic about the Mexican market and aims to build a robust supply chain system in the country. In March 2023, Tesla officially announced plans for a Gigafactory in Mexico. At that time, Tesla mentioned that it would act quickly, similar to its approach in Shanghai, with plans to complete the factory in about one year.
